am looking to have a redesign if required to get my site ranked better
This site does not seem to rank very well and am mistified as to why

Hi Pete,
Your site is very good looking and a lot of time has gone into the design. However there seems to be a lack of focus to the site. I would say it is this lack of focus which is letting your website down.
A good looking site does not mean a succesful site, as I am sure you are aware. Can you answer these questions - What are your five main keywords? What is your sites main objective? What are your competition doing to get traffic?
To improve your rankings you could start by focussing on those keywords. You could make it more obvious what you want your visitors to do. You should narrow your web sites focus to increase your appeal.
